May is National Water Safety Month! - May 1, 2013

To celebrate, Dallas Aquatics is offering a special promotion and a special event!

The Promotion:

Everyone who registers for swim lessons during the month of May will receive a free ticket to Bahama Beach Waterpark. You can register online or at any of the 47 City of Dallas Recreation Centers. Classes fill up fast so register early to secure your spot and get your free Bahama Beach ticket.

The Event:

Dallas Aquatics will be celebrating National Water Safety Month with two free family events. Join us at one of our free Water Safety Fairs at either Bachman Indoor Pool on Saturday, May 18th from 1-3pm or Samuell Grand Pool on Friday June 14th from 2-5pm. We will have water safety presentations for kids with Lifesaver the Water Safety Duck, tips for parents watching kids around the water and home pool safety information. We will also have water games, free swim lesson assessments and free swimming so grab your swimsuits and bring the whole family!

World’s Largest Swimming Lesson - June 18, 2013

Join Olympic God Medalists Rowdy Gaines and Janet Evans, along with kids and families at aquatic facilities around the globe for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.  For the 3rd straight year we’re breaking the Guinness World Record to spread the word that Swimming Lessons Save Lives.  Don’t miss the chance to participate in this record-breaking event and help prevent drowning, the second leading cause of injury-related death of children ages 1-14.  Tuesday, June 18th at 10am at all Dallas Community Pools.  This event is FREE!

We are excited to announce that The North Texas Chapter of the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals has partnered with the City of Dallas to sponsor swim lesson scholarships for those in need of this essential life saving skill.  Drawings for scholarships will be held during the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at the following locations:  Bonnie View, Everglade, Exline, Glendale, H.R. Moore, Grauwyler, Jaycee/Zaragoza, Samuell Grand and Tommie Allen.

Dive-in Movie: Hotel Transylvania - June 21, 2013

Join us for the first in our series of Dive-in Movies.  We will be showing Hotel Transylvania at Walnut Hill Pool on Friday June 21st at sunset.  Gates will open at 8:30pm and the cost of the movie is free with paid pool admission.

Dive-In Movie: Madagascar 3 - July 12, 2013

Join us for the second in our series of Dive-in Movies.  We will be showing Madagascar 3 at Samuell Grand Pool on Friday July 12th at sunset.  Gates will open at 8:30pm and the cost of the movie is free with paid pool admission.

Cardboard Boat Races - July 19, 2013

Grab your refrigerator boxes and your duct tape – cardboard boat races are coming back to Dallas!  For the 3rd straight year, six person teams are challenged to get creative and construct a boat, raft or some sort of floating watercraft made entirely of cardboard (taped seams and waterproofing are allowed), and navigate it across Samuell Grand Pool.  Teams will consist of a captain, a first mate and up to a four person support team.  Judging will be based on design/creativity,  team spirit and speed.  There will even be a Titanic Award for the best of those that don’t finish.  Race begins at 7pm on Friday, July 19th at Samuell Grand Pool – 3201 Samuell Blvd.  Contact the Aquatics Office at 214-670-1926 for more information or to register your team.  Entry Fee is $15 per boat.

Dive-in Movie: Wreck-it Ralph - July 26, 2013

Join us for the third in our series of Dive-in Movies.  We will be showing Wreck-it Ralph at Kidd Springs Pool on Friday July 26th at sunset.  Gates will open at 8:30pm and the cost of the movie is free with paid pool admission.

Dive-in Movie: Pirates: Band of Misfits - August 16, 2013

Join us for the fourth and final show in our series of Dive-in Movies.  We will be showing The Pirates: Band of Misfits at Tietze Pool on Friday, August 16th at sunset.  Gates will open at 8:30pm and the cost of the movie is free with paid pool admission.

Kayak Kamp - July 16, 2012

Learn the basics of kayaking and water safety skills.  This is a five hour introduction to paddling a kakyak.  Students are presented with basic information on dressing to paddle safety, and potential hazards.  A minimal paddle skill set is presented and practiced, allowing students to safely and comfortably maneuver on still water.  Classes are taught by (ACA) American Canoe Association certified instructors from the White Rock Paddle Company.  The first day of class takes place at Samuell Grand Pool.  The second day of instruction takes place at White Rock Lake.  Ages 6-18.  Students must know how to swim.  Minimum of 4 students, maximum of 10 for each Kamp. Multiple kamps will be offered throughout the summer beginning the second week of June.  To register call 214-670-1926.

Discover Scuba - July 14, 2012

The Black Coral Divers, a Charter Club of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers will be at Kidd Springs Pool on Saturday, June 16th and Tommie Allen Pool on Saturday, July 14th offering an introduction to scuba diving for local youth as part of their mission to promote scuba and water skills.  This is a unique opportunity for kids to try out the snorkels, masks and dive gear in a fun and safe environment under the supervision of certified dive instructors.   Space is limited for this free event so call Cindy at 214-670-1984 to reserve a spot.

Aquaclimb - June 2, 2012

Dallas Aquatics is excited to have added two new Aquaclimb climbing walls to our community pool locations for the 2012 season.  The new walls at Walnut Hill and Pleasant Oaks pools will join the ones currently located at Kidd Springs and Tietze pools.  Challenge yourself by climbing up and across the 9ft x 9ft walls before splashing back down in the deep end.  Great fun for both the kids and adults alike.

Dallas Get Kidz Fit Expo - April 28, 2012

Swimming with Dallas Aquatics is the perfect way to Get Kidz Fit!  Your family is invited to join the healthy activities at the fifth annual Get Kidz Fit Fest. Get Kidz Fit is a free,fun-filled festival to educate children and their families on wellness and nutrition while engaging them in a range of healthy lifestyle activities. Hawaiian Style Holiday Party - December 17, 2011

Take a break from the cold and visit the warm waters of Bachman Indoor Pool.  Santa will be making his annual trip to the pool to visit all the good boys and girls or Dallas.  Join Santa for cookies and punch, limbo, hula hoop and other reindeer games both in and out of the water.  Photos with Santa on the surf board will make this a pool party you’ll never forget.
